What is Blackhount?+
Blackhount is a cybersecurity and custom software development company Serving clients nationwide. We provide penetration testing, security assessments, and custom application development for organizations and startups across the United States.
Where is Blackhount located?+
We are Serving clients nationwide. We serve clients throughout the United States including Spokane, WA, Spokane Valley, WA, Boise, Post Falls, Meridian, and Twin Falls. Remote engagements also available nationwide.
What is a penetration test?+
A penetration test is a controlled, authorized attack on your systems performed by a security professional. We use the same tools and techniques as real attackers to find vulnerabilities before malicious actors do. Every engagement includes a written report with specific findings, evidence, severity ratings, and plain-language remediation steps.
What is the difference between a vulnerability scan and a penetration test?+
A vulnerability scan is automated and looks for known signatures. A penetration test is manual and goes further: chaining vulnerabilities together, testing logic flaws, and simulating what a real attacker would do end to end. A scan tells you what known issues exist. A penetration test tells you what an attacker could actually do with them.
How much does a security assessment cost?+
We offer a free automated security assessment for any organization at no cost. Paid assessments start at $299 for a Basic Report and $499 for a Full Report, which includes a 30-minute advisory call and a re-assessment after remediation. Ongoing Blackhount Watch monitoring starts at $149 per month; Watch Pro is $599 per month.
Does Blackhount build custom software?+
Yes. We build custom web applications and internal tools for organizations to replace expensive SaaS subscriptions with software you own. We also build MVPs for seed-stage startup founders preparing for investment rounds. Most internal tool projects are completed in 4 to 10 weeks.
What is an MVP and how does Blackhount help?+
An MVP (Minimum Viable Product) is the smallest working software that tests your most important business assumption. Blackhount scopes and builds MVPs for seed-stage founders who need a working prototype for investor pitches. We focus only on the workflow that demonstrates core value and typically deliver in 4 to 8 weeks.
Why does Blackhount not recommend AWS or big cloud platforms?+
AWS, Azure, and GCP are built for enterprise-scale workloads. For many organizations they introduce unnecessary complexity, require specialized engineers to maintain, and cost far more than simpler infrastructure that handles the same workload. We recommend simple, maintainable setups that any developer can understand without a cloud certification.
